Ralph played Most Beautiful Thing by Teenage Wildlife (the alter ego of London based musician John Wright) a couple of Sundays ago on the Radio KC Indie Show to some excellent feedback so therefor it's great to be able to bring you news that a new track has been released.
Come On and Shoot is intricately layered track replete with smouldering vocals and an infusion of electronica - it's tight, smooth, funky yet sultry. A stylish and completely engaging composition that's been on repeat here in the kennel for the last two weeks.
Based in Shoreditch, this multi-instrumentalist has been making music for his own enjoyment "forever", but through his successful career as a respected filmmaker and photographer, regularly working with Sony Music and some of the world's most iconic musicians he received the encouragement he needed to release his music as Teenage Wildlife.
John writes, plays and records drums, bass, guitar and keys in his attic studio, creating stunning sonic backdrops, seamlessly blending hip hop and dance with melodic dub to produce unique genre-crossing soundscapes.
His compositions have appeared on fashion films for Fendi and Dior and he recently directed Savile Row is Rock N Roll a short film for GQ featuring some of Britain's most iconic musicians, collaborating on its soundtrack with Paul Weller, Johnny Marr and John Taylor of Duran Duran.
The singles released earlier this year, Last Great Love Affair and Most Beautiful Thing, received worldwide airplay and had the likes of Netsky and Harry Styles taking to social media to praise them. Despite this success, John's background remains his primary motivating force. “I had a pretty rough upbringing” he explains. “I think the term is ‘underprivileged’. I designed Teenage Wildlife as a vehicle to express myself musically and I use the funds I raise to support charities that help underprivileged young people.”
The impressively crafted and perfectly produced Come On and Shoot will certainly take Teenage Wildlife to an even wider audience, creating huge anticipation for an interestingly titled debut album The Degenerate Art Exhibition which is slated for release in spring 2015.

Ralph briefly had a look at The Mutineers back in May of last year, but after their first album things went fairly quiet due to personal projects (bassist Iwan Gronow playing for Johnny Marr for instance) and a self imposed 'hiatus'. The good news is, they're back with a vengeance.
With the release of the new single 'Tell Me Why' and a mini-tour planned for October/November, The Mutineers mighty music machine is back on the road.

The single stays true to The Mutineers strong lyric writing ability and with a haunting vocal and musicality it's guaranteed to be a 'Muts' favourite as well as garnering them popularity with the wider Indie world. Let's hope this sees them focus on the band as a unit and with stability find a greater degree of success. Current line up of the band is Nicholas James Mallins, Michael Reed, Iwan Gronow, Charles Salt and Thomas Twemlow.

They've an impressive back catalogue of support appearances with the likes of The View, New Order and Pete Doherty. Whilst having a reputation for selling out their own home ground gigs it's good to see the mini-tour taking in four major cities country-wide, The Mutineers are taking their music to the masses and they'll be playing tracks from the critically acclaimed 'Friends, Lovers, Rivals' album alongside new tracks including the single 'Tell Me Why'.

What's the connection between Johnny Marr and Edinburgh singer/songwriter Steve Heron I hear you ask? Well I'll tell you...They both play guitar and Steve Heron likes Johnny Marr who's just brought out a solo record and a video after 25 years and Steve's about to release his new single 'Picturesque' and a video at a launch party in Edinburgh's Sneaky Pete's on the 29th of March...what's the chances?
Steve's guitar style is as Scottish infused as Johnny's is Manchester although there's inflections of Bernie Sumner in the likes of the heartfelt and heartrending 'Eleanor'.....if 'Picturesque' betters it we're in for a real treat.....it's the kind of song James Blunt wishes he could write.
Since putting out his first album late in 2010, the acquisition of a band and the release of the critically acclaimed 'Domino Mask' EP in 2011 we're now seeing Steve blossom into a major force on not only the Edinburgh Indie music scene but, following in the footsteps of some of the acts he has played alongside (SAMA Best Live Act nominees OK Social Club, the increasingly popular Stanley Odd and the seemingly always in the US, Admiral Fallow) he's becoming firmly established as a must see Scotland-wide.
Prior to the video launch gig he's appearing at Slouch in Glasgow on Sunday 3rd March and Teviot in Edinburgh on Thursday 14th march. The video launch party is in Sneaky Pete's, Edinburgh on the 29th March and follows
that up with The Big 30 gig in Edinburgh's City Cafe on Saturday May 18th and Glasgow's 13th Note on Friday 7th June. Beg borrow and steal if you must but don't miss a chance to catch them live with support by Universal Thee.
