Apollo Junction

Leed’s natives Apollo Junction are set to release their new single Begin on May 18th via self release. The track is a masterful re-working of the original release of Begin five years ago, bringing us a fuller, rounder more radio friendly single that's a guaranteed floor-filler.

The original is on their Bandcamp but you'll be able to hear a pre-release spin of the track on Brian's Radio KC Indie Show of April 1st and that is no joke I promise you.

Apollo Junction write songs that capture the euphoria of electro-dance music mixing with strong indie guitar hooks, driving bass and passionate vocals. From New Order through U2, to The Cure, The Charlatans and Daft Punk, Apollo Junction use their influences to write insanely memorable and uplifting tunes.

With their big-hearted indie pop electronica, they are poised to make a real impact in 2018. Having spent 2017 writing and recording a now completed debut album alongside putting DIY demos and videos out into the web, and in doing so gathered plaudits far and wide.

A recently signed publishing deal with Wipe Out Music (Sleaford Mods/ Coquin Migale /Stone Foundation) has led to Apollo Junction songs featuring on MTV’s U.S. hit reality show Are You The One and in the upcoming movie The Big Promise. They’ve also had plays on Good Morning TV, MTV and BBC Look North.

This fanbase, radio play and critical acclaim also helped them play a series of festivals including the Main Stage at Bingley Music Live, and the Hard Rock stage at the Isle of Wight Festival.

They’ve supported Shed Seven, Cast, James and Sex Pissed Dolls. A recent pre match show at Leeds United Elland Road ground has led to them being invited to play at the Player of The Season Awards as guests of the team.

Fold

Image result for fold choose love singleLeeds based Fold are old friends of Ralph's Life both here on the blog and on Ralph's Radio KC Indie Show, mainly due to the consistently high standard of their releases and the new single Choose Love which is to be released on Clue Records November 24th maintains that standard.

The bands music always comes with a message and Choose Love is no exception. They believe that humanity (and of course dogs) could do with a big hug right now and with that in mind the song is being supported by The Jo Cox Commission on Loneliness.

Choose Love sees Fold sampling the voice of American feminist, author and social activist bell hooks whose ethos echoes the sentiments of the track and is accompanied by a mesmerising organic soundscape that begs the repeat button being firmly pressed.

Black Lime

After a morning listening to Americana (I know, I  know) it was time to get back on the Indie train and who better than with up-and-coming Hull 4-piece Black Lime and their new release Fight Or Flight prior to their debut EP Pleasantville (soon come) for our listening pleasure.

With a mean and moody Strokes-esque vocal and driving guitar throughout it's a gritty delight. It's been on replay here all afternoon and it's unlikely to be coming off the jukebox any time soon.

Alex Greaves produced Fight Or Flight at The Nave Studios in Leeds and according to the band, Alex’s production style was vital in making the record, as they bounced ideas off him to refine their sound.

Next Black Lime gig is this Saturday (Feb 25th) in Verve Bar, Leeds alongside the excellent Psyence. Go check them out if you get the chance.

Remember, watch out for the imminent arrival of their debut EP Pleasantville on your favourite streaming platform.

Cold Summer

Cold Summer are an energetic post-hardcore 4-piece from Leeds, writing experimental melodic rock with a twist that is developed through a wide range of influences between them. The end result being music which portrays a bitter sweet ambience with angst and raw passion from their punk and hardcore roots.

Formed late in 2011 the band have maintained a strong DIY work ethic, self producing/releasing 2 EP's: Transitions and Wake, in 2012 and a self titled album in 2013, they have also been responsible for self booking an album release tour and UK tour with US band He Is Legend in 2014.

This kind of mentality has ultimately led to support slots with diverse and established artists Funeral For A Friend, Polar, Self Defense Family, Lemuria, Milk Teeth, Brawlers, Zoax and recently Grieved, Employed To Serve and Sorority Noise.

In 2016 Cold Summer released Fight To Survive to critical acclaim and no small amount of airplay including Ralph's Indie Show playing A Time Imagination Forgot To Inspire on Radio KC

Their most refined and emotionally driven music to date, the record holds to right a world of consumption, greed and corruption.

A call to arms for an apathetic generation.

Cold Summer are currently focused on writing a follow up to this release channeling the frustration of a uncertain future due to the  social and political events in the UK last year.

This year kicks off with Cold Summer releasing Waiting as a single in advance of their first live shows of the year. It's a tried and tested fans favourite that grabs you by the nuts from the first riff and doesn't let go until the frantic chant at the end. They're building a bridge between Alt Rock and Post Hardcore/Punk fans with this one. All things to all rockers.

Needless to say Ralph's giving it a spin on the Radio KC Indie Show in the near (Sunday 5th March) future.

Sat 25th Feb: The Key Club, Leeds supporting Hellions & Acres

Thurs 9th March - The Hop, Wakefield - Headline show (support TBC)

Sun 28th may - King Street Crawl, Snooty Fox Club, Wakefiled

Where Fires Are

Ralph's always been a fan of crowdfunding since doing one for the Ralph's Life CD for Rethink Mental Illness a couple of years ago, so on hearing that Leeds Alt Rockers Where Fires Are were using PledgeMusic to fund their upcoming EP one four six one it was time to take a looksee.

Ash, James, Matt, Nick and Robbie first met back in 2010 at Leeds College of Music and by 2013 various other bands and solo projects had come and gone.

Following their graduation all five realised they were free to begin their next musical endeavour and Where Fires Are was born, and the rest is history.

Image may contain: textBy ordering your copy of the single on PledgeMusic you'd have gained access to recording updates, bonus content, video clips and much more. Plus, hearing the new single and received new video weeks before anyone else.

Further to that, you'd have had the chance to pre-order any of the items or experiences listed, including a signed EP, limited edition vinyl, acoustic Skype sessions and more.

With the One Four Six One EP out this Friday (3rd Feb) and Where Fires Are embarking on a UK mini-tour from tomorrow Ralph will be playing I've Got The Time on next Sunday's Indie Show on Radio KC.
