Van Tastik

Van Tastik is an impassioned one-man-blues-band mixing American Blues and Folk with hypnotic rhythms; far-out instruments and raw vocals in a Nick Cave stylee.

Whether Van Tastik is delivering a visceral A Capella number, a heavy garage-rock, blues or a sweet, fluttering Appalachian and Bluegrass melody, he will capture and hold the attention of his audiences with his unique musical stylings.

The Van Tastic voice and looks will take you back and pull you south to the Delta where the blues began, but with his own modern twist on the old-fashioned.

After a hugely successful run of festival appearances at Kelburn Garden Party, Eden Festival, ButeFest BlueGrassmarket, Sofar Sounds Edinburgh and a live performance on the Janice Forsyth show for the BBC at The Edinburgh Festival Fringe, he won over fans throughout 2017.

He has released an excellent two-track single, Drag Me To Hell which Brian is playing on the Radio KC Indie Show on March 11th. Look out for Van Tastik live in the UK, Germany, France and Holland following a short tour of New Zealand plus the release of his first album later this year.

MadFish - Video Of The Week

Image may contain: sky and outdoorBrian's favourite video this week is Ghostlands by MadFish. Not since their infamous and highly rated 2014 anthem 'England', has there been such a provocative single from MadFish. Ghostlands has been newly remixed and remastered by Dr. Crippen (ex Tenpole Tudor, King Kurt and now of The Weird Things) at Panther Studios in Reigate Surrey. LISTEN TO LAST WEEK'S TOP 10 HERE

AS PLAYED ON RADIO KC - 25.2.18

BRIAN'S BRAND NEW TOP 10 CHART

Published on 24.2.18 and as played after
THE INDIE SHOW on RADIO KC - 25.2.18 - from 5-7pm

Speak, Brother

Speak, Brother are regaling us once more with their lush vocal harmonies, rustic instrumentation and contagious heartfelt lyrics.

Look out for the release of their latest single Magnesium Burn prior to the debut album Young & Brave which is due for release 13th April and it will be accompanied by a UK headline tour.

No 2: Wozniak

Brian's favourite video this week is Ghosting by Edinburgh band Wozniak which is taken from their critically acclaimed Colour Reels album released in April last year.

Wozniak purvey atmospheric shoe-gaze of the highest quality and that's evident in this latest offering from the album. Go seek it out.

No 3: Bad Llama

We played the last Bad Llama single Apocrypha on the Radio KC Indie Show in November of last year to much critical comment, so it's no surprise we bring you news of their latest single Crooked Empire as a precursor to the imminent release of their EP of the same name.

The single will be getting a pre-release spin on The Indie Show of 18.2.18 so remember to tune in from 5-7pm.

No 4: Sheafs

Image may contain: 5 people, people sitting

SHEAFS are a five-piece indie rock band from Sheffield, which formed in the later end of 2015 comprise Lawrence Feenstra (lead vocals), Chris Goodacre (guitar/backing vocals), Charles Mellor (guitar), Callum Wright (bass/backing vocals), Charlie Eastap (drums).

Following on from the legacy of breakthrough single, This Is Not A Protest, new track, Shock Machine is a bold step up in both power of performance and size of hooks used.

No 5: Granfalloon

Granfalloon
Granfalloon is the musical moniker of Richard Lomax and his folktronica group based in Manchester. Folktronica is a mixture of folk and electronica. Instruments include Omnichords, acoustic guitars, Casio keyboards, and 80's drum machines.

It's a delightfully laid back slice of addictive lo-fi electronic goodness which is lyrically both poignant and amusing. Brian will be spinning Ambulance on the Radio KC Indie Show on Sunday 4th of February so tune in!

Brian's favourite video this week is Dark Horse by Who Killed Nancy Johnson?

Dark Horse is a single release from their forthcoming Flat Earth Theory EP and the song was written by Anthony, Ball, Moulton, Wren.

Recorded November and December 2017 at Creative Control Studio in Bracknell by Al Heslop. Mastered by Pete Maher. Released 2018 on Slip Skin Records.

No 7: Dean Owens

Image may contain: cloud and text
Hailed as "Scotland's most engaging and haunting singer-songwriter" by Irvine Welsh no less, Dean Owens has just released a gritty new video to accompany his latest single Southern Wind from the album of the same name; which is due for release on the 16th of February.

The album was recorded at Mr Lemons Studio in Nashville by Neilson Hubbard and will be available via At The Helm Records.

Hanging Valleys is an alternative band founded in 2016, comprising of Thom Byles (acoustic guitar, vocals), Mike Phillips (electric guitar, vocals) and Alexis Meridol (beats, synthesizer).

Hanging Valleys music is centred around soaring falsetto vocal harmonies accompanied by ethereal atmospheric phrasing on electric and acoustic guitars, which combine to create a rich shifting soundscape.

Based in London Kadija Kamara is a singer songwriter who best describes her sound as Alt Soul. With a love of 60’s and 70’s analogue sounds, she combines her affinity for retro soul music with a host of modern influences.

No 10: Errant Boy

We Like You is the first Errant Boy single of 2018 and a preview of their forthcoming second album, due later this year. Boasting their signature melodic guitar manoeuvres and lyrical unease, it’s a worthy follow up to last autumn’s Means track which appeared on several best of 2017 lists.

Errant Boy has a sound that's pretty unique but if you were to twist my arm for a comparison they're a cross between Jonathan Richman and The Bordellos.
