The Society

North West Indie popsters The Society are creating quite a stir in Manchester and it's no wonder with a cracking debut single Begging on the way plus a headline show in The Soup Kitchen soon. Begging is a tight, melodic track guaranteed to fill the dance floor.

After playing in a handful of previous bands Lew Whalley and Harry Beresford met and instantly developed a strong musical bond, later forming the foundation of The Society.


  
 


Since then, the pair have worked together in a number of indie & rock projects, whilst continuously composing original material together.  Experimenting with numerous band line ups and a range of musical styles, they began to draw on pop and dance influences from years gone by. This blend of genres is now at the core of the fresh new sound of The Society.

In late 2015, Lew and Harry decided to seek new additions for their project. After playing in a number of local bands, Jason Hanley was looking for a change of direction and responded to an online advert. Following a successful audition, Jason joined the band in the latter part of 2015, just as The Society were beginning to experiment with a more dance-inspired indie pop sound.

The final piece of the jigsaw saw the arrival of Tayte Nickols, a talented multi-instrumentalist who had recently moved to the area. Tayte was seeking new musical opportunities, and after some prosperous jam sessions, he joined up with the band shortly before they were due to enter the studio.

The Society, now complete and drawing comparisons to other artists like The 1975, Coldplay & Bastille, steadily started growing their fan base in and around the North West following a string of successful live performances. Their presence on social media has also allowed the band to branch out and gain new fans from across the country.

Dan Solan

Always one for checking out the local radio stations to find out what's hot music-wise in the North West, Ralph's had his ears on WA12 Community Radio Station in St Helens.  One of their top recommends currently is Warrington born singer songwriter Dan Solan and his band as they've just released an album of fine tunes.

Dan was raised between those two great capitals of the music scene, Manchester and Liverpool. From an early age music became the main focus in his life.  Composing his own songs at the age of 15, the musicality of his songwriting, strength of his arrangements and the power of his performances were apparent.





Extraordinarily prolific and imaginative, he is constantly evolving his art and continues to write new music at an impressive rate, while gigging across the North West of England both as a solo artist and as part of a band.  Dan's influences include Coldplay, Radiohead, Elbow, Snow Patrol, Jeff Buckley and Ed Harcourt, but his style is truly his own.  The new album has been produced by Mercury Award nominated producer Andy Ross and the new cuts are already creating something of a stir.

BBC Introducing Manchester will be featuring some new tracks and Dan has recently been interviewed by ALL FM's Sophie Svennison on her new drivetime show, as well as appearing on a live radio show for Storm FM in Bangor, Wales.  With rapturously received gigs, ever expanding crowds, and over 3000 plays on soundcloud within 2 months, this is an artist whose trajectory is rising inexorably to greater recognition and success.







With well crafted, often poignant and soul searching tracks like 'Give Me Today' Dan Solan will take you on a musical journey with the new album that you wont want to end.  

Whilst you can hear traces of his musical influences in his music, he's very much his own man.  There's gigs upcoming and the line up of Dan's band is Dan Solan - Lead Vocals, Rhythm Guitar, Steven Kent - B/Vocals, Lead Guitar, Chris Bright - Bass Guitar and Karl Hand - Drums.

The Ninth Watch

After a hectic and successful years gigging in 2012, Manchester four piece The Ninth Watch are hibernating in the studio with a view to bringing you a host of new tunes and if they're as strong as the tracks they produced last year, we're in for a real treat.










The Ninth Watch are vocalist/guitarist Stephen Ahern with Mike Fieldhouse also on guitar, Ian Holden on bass and Matt Ryan drums.  


They're quintessentially Manchester in their music styling but they can be subtle, like the thoughtful and melodic 'Brave Bombardier' or in your face in true Manc style as with the classic 'Concrete Boots'.  










Brave Bombardier' has a folk-like feel to it, almost in the vein of Elbow.  It's moody, wistful and lyrically strong.  Soft strings and strong words make it a track that will hold your attention and stay in your head for a long time to come with it's tale of battles past.  












'The Optimist' however is a more anthemic track suited for radio play and festivals alike.  With hints of early Coldplay it's an appealing track with very strong drum and guitar work that builds throughout the track.










The final track to tempt you with is the ballsy 'Concrete Boots' an Indie classic in the making.  It grabs you from the opening line and doesn't let go with it's 'the end of me' chant throughout...a fans favourite...definately!  I'll be plugging this track for the next Online Festival compilation album Indievidual Vol 2.
