Ralph's favourite video this week is Damocles by Enamel Animal who are an alternative rock band hailing from Liverpool, melding together a sound that encompasses heavy riffs, psychedelic undertones, pulsating rhythm and unique melodica. Since 2012 the band have gone through several phases and lineup changes, with founding members Phil, Ryan and Glen mainstays throughout, sharing the stage with the likes of Bad Sign, Crazy Town, FOES, Exit_International, as well as Ralph's Life favourites The Hyena Kill and Rival Bones. Enamel Animal self-released a debut album, Unfaith, which was released in February 2017 to critical acclaim in underground rock/metal circles, leading them to their recent signing with Holier Than Thou Records. Enamel Animal remain close to their roots, and continue to hone their art by the riverbank in the city they love, allegedly drinking tea and whiling away the hours until the end of the world. Damocles is a song about the corruption of the soul that power can bring, quite apt in these troubled political times.
Ralph's been following the exploits of The 2ube Liverpool with great interest of late. Their live online shows from the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts in the lead up to an online festival on April 13th have been excellent, and now they're teaming up with Bay TV to bring a weekly show of highlights plus live footage. In the spirit of the iconic eighties Channel 4 television show, The 2ube Live and Bay TV are taking two hours of brand new music into the homes of over 380,000 viewers in the north-west of England. This unique proposition places new music at the top of its agenda, with The 2ube highlighting the diversity and talent of the UK music scene, showcasing some of the hottest breakthrough acts and featuring interviews and exclusive performances from special guests, with the next show scheduled for Friday March 18th.
Bay TV Liverpool is a local internet television station which was established in November 2011 and provides video on demand content with a selection of programmes streamed live.
The channel is chaired by Jack Stopforth, a former chief executive of the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce, and has been supported by Robbie Fowler, the former Liverpool F.C. footballer, and Pete Price, a radio presenter at City Talk 105.9 and Radio City 96.7.
On 21 February 2013, Bay TV was awarded a local TV licence by Ofcom to broadcast a linear channel on Freeview channel 8 in the Liverpool area including Halton, Wigan and parts of Cheshire as well as being on Virgin Channel 159 Merseyside and Liverpool.
The last time Ralph took a look at The Verdict was just after they won the Rock The House competition sponsored by The Cavern Club and held in The House of Commons back in September. Since then they've had some successful gigs at The Zanzibar Club in October and The Cavern Club for BBC Introducing in November plus local and internet radio play for the new track they've brought out recently 'The Same Mistakes'.
Well the good news is The Verdict are having a Christmas party at The Zanzibar Club in Liverpool on Saturday 22nd December and you're all invited! It's the perfect chance to hear the new material as well as the old favourites like 'Days Are Speed'. Support on the night will be Gaffney. He's been pursuing a solo career, writing new material and he'll be accompanying The Verdict on a couple of numbers. This is a great chance to catch why this young mans vocals accompanied by his solid acoustic guitar playing are all that's good about the current Liverpool music scene.
