The Slow Readers Club

Well feted after the release of their debut album The Slow Readers Club now bring us their second offering Cavalcade with it's 12 tracks of indie pop infused electro goodness. 

Strong  song writing and vocals overlaid on consumate musicality will see this album push them even further to the fore.

The Slow Readers Club seem to be on the cusp of being the next big musical Manchester thing as this album flows from potential single to potential single with Ralph already having played Start Again many a time on his Radio KC Indie Show.






But it's not just Ralph that's featured The Slow Readers Club regularly as the band's previous four singles have enjoyed extensive airplay on BBC 6 Music and Don't Mind was selected for a coveted slot on Steve Lamacq's Round Table which saw the single awarded a very respectable 7/10 from each guest on the panel.





Playlisted twice on Xfm, featured three times as the station's Shock of the New and with their single Forever In Your Debt selected as one of the top 5 singles of the week in December 2014, it seems that journalist and musician John Robb was absolutely right to predict that 2015 will see The Slow Readers Club breaking through to become one of the most important bands to emerge from Manchester's music scene in recent years.





The Slow Readers Club regularly receive rave reviews for their live shows and 2014's highlights include a sold out show at Manchester’s Night and Day and appearances at Tramlines Festival, Party in the Pines and Blackthorn Festival together with support slots for Catfish & The Bottlemen, The Struts, Reverend and the Makers and The Sunshine Underground.  

The band will be  touring Cavalcade throughout April 2015 and I'd advise you to catch a show near you!

The Assist

One of the tracks that's had a lot of feedback since Ralph gave it an Intro spin on his Radio KC Sunday Indie Show recently was 'Control' by up and coming young Walsall band The Assist.  They're a four piece Alt/Indie group with an infectious, bouncy Brit Pop-esque style that's proving popular not only locally, but country-wide despite their only being fully formed this year.


The band originated from the idea of a 365 day music project which tracks their progress throughout a whole year. After much discussion the band was formed on the 1st of January 2013. They feel that unsigned bands today spend too much time being critical of the music around them and not enough time on their own music. They believe to be a successful band you can't rely on one style of music and that musical depth is the key.



Whereas many bands seem to be around for ever achieving little recognition, they believe their fast approach and young, ambitious personalities will stand them in good stead when it comes to progressing at each stage.  The Assist are Mikey and Ryan Stanton, Jak Baker and Ben Faulkner who aim to write 'real music, with honest hard hitting lyrics that speak for themselves'.  Well so far so good with the energetic 'Control' (got to be a fans favourite at gigs) with its shades of the now defunct Nizlopi fitted with brand new Duracell Extra batteries. They're a more frenetic, grittier version of that other Birmingham band The Twang. 

The Assist have some impressive gigs under their belt already, including supporting Bruce Foxton and the near legendary Reverend And The Makers so take a chance and go see them November 15th when they headline The o2 Academy 3 in Birmingham with support by Action Replay, Hightower, Superficials and State Of Suburbia.

Born Thief

Having played the soon to be released Born Thief  single 'An Inch Of Doubt' on Ralph's Radio KC Indie Show it seemed like the ideal time to take a closer look at the group who have a similar vibe to Liverpool's Tea Street Band. 

Born Thief are - Jake McGrath (vocals), Sam Wilson (Guitar), Greg Jones (Bass), Luke Haran (Guitar) and John Fitzpatrick (Drums) who formed recently from the ashes of Yorkshire band Sharp Darts.





From their first live performance in May 2013 with Reverend & The Makers (who recently signed with Alan McGee's new record label 359 Music) and The Sunshine Underground, quickly followed by shows with The Hoosiers and ‘NME tipped’ Dexters, Born Thief have gone from strength to strength in their first six months as a band and have played Bingley Music Festival headlined by none other than Nile Rodgers and Chic who've been 2013 festival favourites.

Born Thief will be digitally releasing their debut single ‘An Inch of Doubt’ on Sept 9th with an official launch night at the 360 Club. On the night you'll be able to purchase a limited edition physical version of the track.  It's a fresh take on a late 80's stylee disco floor filler, with the choppy guitar and smooth vocal - it's musical niceness that's best listened to on the beach in Ibiza before hitting a foam party - more tracks soon please!
