Peach Trees

As an East meets West collaboration (that's Cleethorpes and Southport, not Russia and America) Peach Trees have come up with a pretty damn fine piece of get up on the floor, funky-ass disco music, made all the more listenable thanks to the soulful vocals of London-based Mr Ernie Jackson.


The release of This Is The Love by the nascent get-together of musical minds Ambrose Chappel and Dave Hubbard brings a poptastic blend of retro disco vibes and soul vocalising that would have happily blasted out of the speakers of Studio 54 (New York not Darlington) and make you want to get down with your bad self.

As the beat builds with Ernie's soulful vocal, the sexy backbeats and dee-lightfully sensual sax will drag you onto the dancefloor. It's shades Chic or Alexander O'Neil back in the summer of '87 dragged kicking and screaming into today's musical mix by some assured production on the part of Ambrose and Dave and outstanding vocalising by the super-smooth Ernie Jackson.

It's got 12" vinyl single release written all over it and Ralph will be giving it a spin on the Radio KC Indie Show this week.

Here's hoping Ambrose (who features on the Ralph's Life CD) and Dave (of The Online Festival fame) aka Peach Trees continue to bring such funk fuelled gems to our turntables, especially with such high quality collaborators adding to the mix.

Villiers

Ralph's been keeping an eye on Lancashire lads Villiers for a bit now and, with the imminent release of a Double A Side single (You're Not Alone/Nowhere Left To Run) as a follow up to the excellent 'Dancer', this seemed as good a time as any to spread the good musical word. They're very much in the same mould as London electro boys Thumpers or Resonate from Sheffield, but with a bit of a mean and moodier edge as shown on 'Dancer'.

The new tracks continue with that edgier feel and 'You're Not Alone' has an almost 80's anthemic feel to it, probably my favourite of the double A-sider. 'Nowhere Left To Run' is a touch softer and reflective but none the less listenable. The band seem to be getting much more comfortable in their own electro-plated skin.







Last summer saw Villiers break onto the UK festival scene with a slot at BeatHerder alongside Clean Bandit, TOY, Temples, Chic ft Nile Rodgers and Groove Armada. This year they played their first headline show at Manchester’s Night and Day, lauded as - 'sealing their reputation as one of the region’s most exciting and innovative new bands'.

Born Thief

Having played the soon to be released Born Thief  single 'An Inch Of Doubt' on Ralph's Radio KC Indie Show it seemed like the ideal time to take a closer look at the group who have a similar vibe to Liverpool's Tea Street Band. 

Born Thief are - Jake McGrath (vocals), Sam Wilson (Guitar), Greg Jones (Bass), Luke Haran (Guitar) and John Fitzpatrick (Drums) who formed recently from the ashes of Yorkshire band Sharp Darts.





From their first live performance in May 2013 with Reverend & The Makers (who recently signed with Alan McGee's new record label 359 Music) and The Sunshine Underground, quickly followed by shows with The Hoosiers and ‘NME tipped’ Dexters, Born Thief have gone from strength to strength in their first six months as a band and have played Bingley Music Festival headlined by none other than Nile Rodgers and Chic who've been 2013 festival favourites.

Born Thief will be digitally releasing their debut single ‘An Inch of Doubt’ on Sept 9th with an official launch night at the 360 Club. On the night you'll be able to purchase a limited edition physical version of the track.  It's a fresh take on a late 80's stylee disco floor filler, with the choppy guitar and smooth vocal - it's musical niceness that's best listened to on the beach in Ibiza before hitting a foam party - more tracks soon please!
