The Boston Shakers

What do you get when you mix Fun Lovin' Criminals with Tijuana Bibles and stir in a bit of John Mayall and Dr Feelgood? Liverpool six-piece The Boston Shakers of course.

They're bringing their own brand of 'in your face', blues infused rock 'n' roll to the table, heavy beats with smattering of rap and no small amount of swagger.

The former barworkers describe themselves as providing - "Big MPC beats, wailing guitars and captivating raps served 'on the rocks', The Boston Shakers are a cocktail of good vibrations you won't get enough of."

Originally from France and the US, electronic rock band The Boston Shakers are now based in Liverpool. 

The band started when six friends with the same passion for music and drinks decided to blend the musical genres they had been listening and playing for years with the nightlife atmosphere and environment they were working in as bartenders.

Ralph's giving their track Body Mind & Soul a spin on his Radio KC Indie Show this Sunday.

The Boston Shakers are very much the real deal both lyrically (I'm rockin' like Garry Glitter - but I ain't no babysitter), musically and (with a charismatic front man that looks like Russell Brand) live and unleashed. Black Cat Bone

Ralph has been giving Edinburgh band Black Cat Bone the odd spin on his Radio KC Indie Show recently due to their intensely likeable bluesy sound, so it's with great pleasure that we can announce the release of their debut album Growl on the 31st October.  Ralph has had a sneak preview and I can tell you now their alt rock bluesy style is shining through with this release.


From the moody John The Revelator to the gritty Canned Heat-esque (think On The Road Again) eponymously titled lead track Growl Black Cat Bone are laying out their musical stall with forceful intent. Growl is a ten track album of which I've been lucky enough to have a meaty five track taster.



 


Piece Of Mind is a foot stompin' guitar-driven gem, perfect for a single and bound to be a live favourite. Shades of John Mayall with a bit of Jeff Beck geetar and some mean harmonica thrown in for good measure.

Illicit Thrill is a real killer from note one, with its proper bluesy, hair up on the back of your neck harmonica, get down and dirty strings, kick you in the nuts throaty vocal. It's sleazy and greasy, don't want it to stop blues music at its best.

The Afghan Hounds

A while back Ralph had a bit of a look at Scottish band The Afghan Hounds but back then they didn't have a lot of gigs under their collective belt and their music needed some fine tuning.....well seeing as it's blog a dog week Ralph checked them out again and lo and behold The Afghan Hounds have come of age.  Assorted influences are.....

Early Rolling Stones , Small Faces, The Who, The Doors, The Black Crowes, Humble Pie, Free, Sly+The Family Stone,The La's, Kasabian, Primal Scream, Paul Weller and Dr John to name but a few.

Some nice 'n' sleazy harmonica and gritty vocals on 'Electric Karma Blues' with a bit of boogie woogie piano in the background.....what more could you ask for.....it's a solid, steeped in Blues history tune.....strong songwriting ability matched with accomplished musicianship.....a proper tune an early Jeff Beck would have been happy playing!








They're now a proper rock it out, dirty blues, foot stomping, guitar twanging, audience pleasing Indie band.  They've been gigging regularly, changing personnel less frequently which shows in their new EP and have now started the process of regularly leaving their mark on Aberdeen's premier music venues and beyond.




'Main Line Home' has a hint of John Mayall through it but with a US West Coast guitar feel.....Allman Brothers.....maybe.....it's just got class oozing from it.....I love it.....and with 'swag' vocals from Brett.....I could listen to it all day long.....if fact I just about have.

Featuring the rock steady drumming and percussion of Kev Fettes, the stylish guitar licks of John Brown and Bryan "Jones" Robertson as well as the gravelly yet soulful vocals and wailing harmonica riffing of Brett McIntosh it wont be long before they're in demand and sharing the stage with the likes of current Indie favourites like Modern Faces from Fife who have conquered the North West of England or Manchester's Slydigs who are reversing the process and are in the middle of a major assault on Scotland and who The Afghan Hounds are supporting in Tunnels, Aberdeen.
