Following on from the release of their Stone Asylum EP back in 2014 and prior to the release of the upcoming Shadows And Noise album next year, Gloucestershire based Clay Gods have decided to celebrate the addition of drummer Max Ganderton to the band with the release of a double A Side single. The hard-driving Cabin Feverin particular and the slightly lighter Looking For Jerusalem are the epitomy of doom-laden rock, lyrically and musically in the style of Liverpool's excellent Kynchinlay. Clay Gods avoid the more aggresive vocals of some of their contemporaries, blending more melodic vocals with driving rock-based guitar play. A blistering live act Clay Gods create "an on-stage hurricane of drums, guitar and energy". They've already played prestigious venues such as The Fleece and The Exchange in Bristol. With the addition of this new material they will not only garner a reputation as one of the south west’s most exciting rock bands, but also spread the word further afield with radio friendly tracks like Cabin Fever.
Ralph's got a very short attention span of 15 seconds which he uses as a guide to picking music to feature on the blog. So when a new single drops in the kennel with a title as long as A Time Imagination Forgot To Inspire it might just have missed the cut. However the track by Leeds outfit Cold Summer made the grade due to its burgeoning intro which grabs the attention from note one before daring you to stop listening with driving guitar, punchy drums and commanding vocal.
Cold Summer write experimental melodic rock with a twist that is developed through a wide range of influences. The end result being - "music which portrays a bitter-sweet ambience with angst and raw passion" from their punk and hardcore roots.
Formed in 2011 Cold Summer maintain a strong DIY work ethic, self-producing and releasing 2 EP's followed by a self-titled album in 2013. They also self-booked an album release tour and toured with US band He Is Legend in 2014. This kind of mentality ultimately led to support slots with diverse and established artists Funeral For A Friend, Polar, Self Defense Family, Lemuria, Milk Teeth, Brawlers and recently Grieved and Employed To Serve.
In 2015, the band worked hard on producing new material, culminating in the release of Fight To Survive. Their most refined and emotionally driven music to date, the record, in their words - "holds to right a world of consumption, greed and corruption. A call to arms for an apathetic generation."
If you're looking for well crafted, melodic tunes in a Steely Dan sylee then you've come to the right place because Ralph's been listening to Red Sails from Liverpool and it's time you did too! Their tracks sound simple but are actually complex well written musical gems that soar, taking you on highs and lows with their lyrics and melodies.
Their track 'Looking Out To Sea' is a case in point of a track that's best played with the headphones on chilling out on a warm summers afternoon beer in hand. The good news is they've got more tracks (and a video) on the way. More good news is they're playing LEAF in Liverpool on the 13th September with the highly acclaimed This Morning Call (Ben Hayworth) and Lumin Bells and Ralph's putting his gig collar on and will be bringing you a review.
Up until now they've been almost hermit-like for a band with such quality music. However it looks like the tide is turning as, with increasing radio plays of their track 'Sure Enough', including Ralph's Indie Show on Radio KC and now by Dave Monks on BBC Introducing plus with the aforementioned new tracks and gig on the way Red Sails boat looks like it's about to come in!
