Officer

The last time Ralph's keyboard vibrated as he listened to the sounds of London singer/songwriter Officer was when he was bringing news of his then forthcoming album Myriads whilst listening to Glass Ceiling which had just been released as a single back in March. 

Well the wait is over as the album is available now on pre-order prior to it's release on the 31st of July. One of the perks of having Ralph's Life is being in possesion of a physical copy right now and Officer gives us a thing of haunting lyrical and musical beauty.

From the first sonorifically plaintive notes of Laughing Rafters leading into the enormously captivating Glass Ceiling, Officer traps your heart and mind with thoughtful words and comforting melodies.  Having been lucky enough to have heard Glass Ceiling performed live recently it's comforting to know that he manages to convey much of the emotion of his on-stage vocal into this recording.




Officer brings tinges of all that was good in 80's pop bands like Peter Coyle's The Lotus Eaters in tracks like Can We Talk? and Act Of Survival. One Day is as lyrically heart-rending as The Waters is musically uplifting with Officer taking us on a roller coaster of emotions throughout Myriads.







There's no disappointments here as the quality of songwriting continues throughout Ambulance, DATV and Elisabeth. 

The highlight for me is the compelling, mightily pleasing and yet strangely disturbing My Darling Defibrillator which again I've seen Officer perform live, something you should try and achieve yourself. 

This inciteful album rounds off with the moody Burst and AFM and all I want to do is listen to it again.





It's quality and intensity is a tribute to the fans who helped make it possible through their crowdfunding efforts and to whom he pays tribute in the sleeve notes...

Last time Ralph checked out Officer was on the release of his first track and video from the upcoming Myriads album. Well today sees the release of the second track Glass Ceiling and the video is being launched exclusively on Ralph's Life.

Both track and video are deliciously dark, atmospheric and well crafted. The video takes you on a soul-searching introspective journey as Officer (aka DC Logan) makes you feel his pain. You can experience it right here on Ralph's Life and it'll be played on Radio KC from this week.

The Myriads album is being produced thanks to the love and generosity of Officer's friends as they crowd funded enough cash from his loyal fan-base who were desperate to have a physical copy of the tracks they loved from his live performances.

Officer had been playing regularly for a year in all the 'usual supects' small venues in London and beyond including Germany, building up a solid core of fans willing to put forward their hard earned beer tokens to see his work properly realised on iTunes and it's ilk.

The fruit of this is Myriads - a stunning debut indie soundscape album of incredibly captivating songs, powerful lyricism and oceanic atmospheres. The album was produced by close friend, Daniel Peterson and co-produced by Officer himself. You can see and hear why people have invested in the creation of this album and now Officer is releasing one of the songs most loved by his audience, Glass Ceiling. He’s thrilled with how the song has turned out and is looking forward to his beloved crowd’s reaction.

If you're even luckier you'll have been invited by Ralph to the Lynn Gerrard debut poetry book launch in The Citadel Theatre, St Helens June 11th where he'll be performing along with Lee and Adele of The Fireflys and Amber Heyes.

Lynn Gerrard will be performing some of her spoken word poetry from the book on the night.

Officer

So I'm watching the start of the new video from Officer for his single The Waters (a pre-cursor to his Myriads album) and thinking amiable electronica, when all of a sudden it bursts into up-beat Alt-Rock-esque swathed in an almost 80's New Wave back beat. It's made all the more lovely by Officer's celtic edged vocal and an atmospheric video that carries you along on a tide of musical goodness.

The Myriads album has a lot to live up to as The Waters has a well crafted, insightful soundscape, but I'm more than certain it will be carried on through the remaining eleven tracks for which I can't wait!



The single has been played on Ralph's Indie Show on Radio KC already and to a fair amount of critical acclaim. That and the fact it's not been off the kennel's juke box for the last two weeks.

The man himself describes Myriads as - "A beautiful twelve-limbed beast" - which was produced by the hugely talented Mr Daniel Peterson (check out his Strawberry Blonde EP) and co-produced by Officer.

The album's cover is the creation of London based painter Ben Jamie with whom Officer collaborated to produce a suitably juxtaposed  artwork.

Officer goes on to confide - "The experience of making the record has been one where more than anything I have been really inspired by and repeatedly made aware as to how many incredible buddies I have who happen to be immensely talented and who therefore have played various key roles in me realising the album and sound I have always been single-mindedly pursuing."
