Friday September 20th will be a special night in the Academy 2 in Manchester as Sons of the Stage, The Marivaux, The Number, Bez from The Happy Mondays, a DJ set by Mike Tracy and some special guests will be taking part in a tribute to Robert 'Jacko' Jackson who was tragically stabbed and killed in late July of this year.
Jacko was well known as a DJ on the 'Madchester' music scene where he had a residency at The Beat Club in Cord and counted Mani of the Stone Roses and Bez of the Happy Mondays as mates.
All proceeds on the night will go to Jacko's family.
Headliners on the night are Sons of the Stage and their live set is becoming the stuff of legend, not to be missed - here's their track 'How I Miss The Sun'. Hints of The Beatles in a Manchester style...great guitar riffs and a gritty, yet haunting vocal which has shades of an early (Steampacket) Rod Stewart. Their album 'Angel Hill' is out now.
Support is The Marivaux, described as a transatlantic sounding four-piece very much from Manchester, who fuse the best of a variety of influences yer remain unique and infectious - check out 'Track Record' - Britpop-esque with an infectious lyric, you can't help but like it!
It's set to be a great night with all the 'Madchester' luminaries (wonder who the special guests will be) out for a worthy cause, a DJ set by Mike Tracey and at only £20 a ticket with all monies going towards Jacko's family - you'd be 'Mad' not to go and support such a worthy cause.
